The EU foreign policy chief Federica Mogherini urges the European Commission to give a positive recommendation on the report for Albania on 17th April.
“Many reforms are done. At this stage, there are concrete results. Do we want to move forward? The collapse of Albania and the Balkans is not in the interest of the EU. Integration is a matter of interest for the EU itself. In these times we talk a lot about geopolitical and geostrategic competition in the Balkans, but I say that if the EU is there in a stable way then there is no room for other players in the region. Now is the moment. And I believe this will be my target in the next 3-4 months. A positive recommendation unconditioned from the Commission in order for the EU’s decision on the opening of negotiations”.
Both Mogherini and Rama admit problems with corruption and organized crime, but as they say, these phenomena are found in the member countries as well. Important for both is the will to fight them./tvklan.al
